The reason a chiropractor takes X-Rays of a patient is to rule out other medical pathologies such as metastatic bone cancers, the possibility of stroke, and many other disease pathologies.

Will X-Rays Help the Chiropractor Understand my Condition?

Primarily, the reason chiropractors take x rays is to look at potential structural and biomechanical instabilities. In an acute trauma such as a car accident, they would be taken to rule out any fracture which would be contraindicated in performing an adjustment.

Another reason would be to look at the vertebral subluxation complex to determine the degree of spinal degeneration and degenerative joint and disc disease and to also compare the x ray with the exam findings. The purpose of this would be to come up with a treatment plan to let the patient be given an educated decision as to how they want to be treated.
